Want to save money this winter? Follow these four S's
- Stay in: We’ve waited so long to get out and about but when the nights get cold and dark, a cosy night in watching TV with the family will save money and give you an opportunity to use energy saving tips. Not only will you save money on travel and tickets, but you can shut the curtains (keeping the heat in), turn off the lights (saving on utility bills) and watch TV. Make sure you turn everything off afterwards as standby mode still uses electricity.
- Be Sustainable: There are many common-sense ways we can all improve our homes and save money all round, not just in winter. The Energy saving Trust – an organisation devoted to promoting energy efficiency, energy conservation, and the sustainable use of energy – provides a number of tips on being more efficient at home and on the move. You can find out more here.
- See if you’re eligible for Winter Fuel payments: If you or a relative were born on or before 5 July 1952, you may be eligible for the Government's Winter Fuel Payment and could receive between £100 and £300 tax-free to help pay your heating bills. You can find out more information about the criteria here.
- Save: Any money you can save now while the weather is still mild could help pay for your larger winter fuel bills. It’s never too early or too late to start saving. Click here if you’d like to find out more about Al Rayan Bank’s savings accounts.
