Identify malware
Malware is a collective name for viruses, trojans and malicious software designed by fraudsters and may be harmful to your computer. Some malware is designed to activate when you log on to Internet Banking.
Malware can record your password and memorable information and use it to gain access to your account. It can also trick you into making payments through screens that you may think are genuine websites.
When you are visiting the Al Rayan Bank website, always check that the website address begins with https:// and the website address is 'www.alrayanbank.co.uk'.
How do I know if my computer has malware?
You might see unusual screens and pop-up messages prompting you to enter your personal information. We won't for example, ask you to disclose your password other than when you are logging into online banking and we don’t use pop-ups on our website.
You might be requested to make payments to an account you don’t recognise.
You might be asked for your full memorable information. Our log on page will only ever ask you to enter three random characters of your memorable information.
How can I avoid infection by malicious software?
Viruses and malicious software (malware) can trick you by resembling other websites.
Social networking sites are a common source of infection. You need to be careful when downloading online content as while they may be free, they may also contain hidden malicious software. Pop-up advertisements that appear on your screen often carry malware.
Make sure that any files or programs that you download, or any purchases that you make are from secure web pages or genuine retailers.
Should I use software to protect my computer?
We strongly recommend that you use an anti-virus solution on your computer and keep this up-to-date. Running and keeping this type of software up-to-date can help protect your computer from viruses and malicious software (malware).
Also keeping your Internet browser, operating system (e.g. Windows) and firewall up to date can reduce your chance of infection.
If you’re unsure whether the software on your computer is up to date, this free health check* will guide you through the relevant steps to ensure that your computer is set up for optimum security.
This is provided through third party software designed to help you to keep your PC or Mac up to date and secure. No third party vendors are specifically endorsed or recommended by us and you should not rely on this as your sole method of protecting yourself from viruses and malicious software.
