Meet Lawny Chiu, Regulatory Reporting & Prudential Risk Manager

I joined the Bank in April 2014, which I can hardly believe has been 10 years already! During that time, I have been the Bank’s Regulatory Reporting and Prudential Risk Manager.

I manage the production and review of the Bank's regulatory liquidity returns, which are submitted to the Regulator. A key aspect of my role involves overseeing the Profit Rate Risk in the Banking Book, which measures the risk associated with how well the re-pricing of the Bank's assets aligns with the re-pricing of its liabilities and capital.

I feel as if my time here has flown by, and the reason is simple: I genuinely enjoy my job. It's dynamic, with constantly evolving rules and regulations that keep me on my toes. Additionally, I’ve always felt valued by the management team, which has played a significant role.

One my achievements that stands out is the development of the intra-day liquidity return. Starting with only a set of PRA supervisory guidelines and a blank template, I had to conceptualise and create the return from scratch.

Over my years here, the Bank has seen many changes, driven by the evolving economic and regulatory landscape. There’s been a noticeable increase in the focus on staff wellbeing for example, with enhanced benefits, a dedicated Wellbeing Team, and paid-for health screenings.

In my opinion, it is the Bank’s ability to adapt and respond to change in a timely manner that has been key to its success, together with a forward-looking management team that identifies the right strategies for growth, and a commitment to the needs of shareholders, staff, and customers alike.

But certain things have remained constant. The staff here are some of the friendliest people I’ve ever worked with, and it’s comforting to know that some of the colleagues who were here when I joined are still with us today.

As for the future, making predictions is tricky, but I believe the Board will continue to pursue the right strategies for sustained growth. In my experience, change is inevitable, and I’m confident that in another five to ten years, the Bank will continue to evolve significantly.

For my part, I look forward to contributing to and being part of this ongoing journey.
