Al Rayan Bank supports European Restart a Heart Day and raises over £700 for the British Heart Foundation

A cake and coffee morning hosted by Al Rayan Bank (UK) has raised vital funds for the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) life-saving research. Employees at the Bank’s operational headquarters in Birmingham bought and baked cakes for the event, raising over £700 for the biggest independent funder of cardiovascular research in the UK. In addition, staff attended cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training in support of European Restart a Heart Day at the charity’s furniture and electrical store in Birmingham City Centre.

Al Rayan Bank recognises the vital work done by the BHF and the importance of fundraising in continuing research into heart disease. Dr Samir Alamad, Head of Sharia Compliance and Product Development and Chair of Al Rayan Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, which organised the fundraising activities said, “We’re delighted to have raised a substantial amount of money for a fantastic cause, thank you to everyone who made it a success.

“I would encourage anyone who is thinking of holding a fundraising event for the BHF to do it. It’s very straightforward to organise, and our staff loved getting involved to raise money for such a deserving cause. It also inspired our staff to want to learn CPR, a true lifesaving skill.”

Donna Stokes, BHF Fundraising Manager for the West Midlands, said, “We would like to thank all the staff from Al Rayan Bank for their fundraising activities and we are incredibly grateful for them raising £721. Every five minutes someone loses their life to heart and circulatory disease which devastates the lives of those they leave behind.

“Money raised from fundraising activities like this will help us to fund the research that’s so desperately needed to bring us closer to beating heart disease. Together we can save more lives.”
