Al Rayan Bank branding on marble wall

Al Rayan Bank celebrates one-year anniversary in Birmingham

One year ago, Al Rayan Bank (UK) relocated its Operational Headquarters to its newly refurbished, Grade II listed offices in Calthorpe Road, Edgbaston. Although the Bank had been based in Birmingham since it first opened its doors in 2004, the move cemented its long term commitment to the city. Since the move, the Bank has grown its workforce by 26% percent, increased its post-tax profits by more than 700%, and welcomed more than 10,000 new customers.

In celebration of this significant anniversary and achievement, Sultan Choudhury, CEO of Al Rayan Bank, held an all company celebration to thank employees for their role in the Bank’s success. While employees from the Bank’s Operational Headquarters were able to join the celebrations in person, team members from Al Rayan Bank’s strategically located national branch and office network - based in Small Heath, Birmingham, Blackburn, Bradford, Leicester, Manchester, Luton, and at multiple locations across London: Knightsbridge, Edgware Road, Whitechapel, Tooting and Ilford - also participated.

The anniversary came in the same week that Al Rayan Bank was shortlisted in two categories at the Asian Business Chamber of Commerce Awards: Outstanding Large Business and Outstanding Customer Service. This awards celebrate and showcase businesses in Birmingham, and winners will be announced next month in a ceremony at the city’s International Convention Centre (ICC).

Sultan Choudhury, CEO, Al Rayan Bank, said: “When we opened our new Operational Headquarters last year, I spoke about Birmingham being the perfect place for Al Rayan Bank to begin the next chapter in its history, thanks to its first-class modern infrastructure, excellent transport links and the local talent which would support the growth of the Bank.

“The Bank’s talent is key to its success, and we strive to be a great local employer. We have achieved Investors in People Standard, demonstrating our commitment to realising the potential of our employees and are a ‘Living Wage Employer’, voluntarily opting to pay employees a ‘Living Wage’ which is significantly higher than the National Minimum Wage. I look forward to working with everyone at the Bank over the next twelve months to ensure strong and sustained growth.”

Al Rayan Bank has been a pioneer of British retail Islamic banking for 12 years, and is dedicated to strong, faith-based ethics and great customer service. The first wholly Sharia compliant retail bank in the UK, it currently has over 70,000 retail, business and premier customers and has earned a reputation for providing
